Prologic savings

With a commitment to improving performance and reducing unnecessary expenditure, Prologic approached Fleet Witness to gain deeper visibility into their fleet’s behaviour and to understand how telematics transforms fleet costs.

The goal was simple:

  • Identify where money was being lost, uncover opportunities to operate leaner, and ensure every vehicle and driver was performing at their best.
  • What followed was a clear demonstration of how modern telematics does not just track vehicles but transforms the financial health of an entire fleet.

For many fleet managers and operators, the idea of investing in telematics still triggers one lingering fear:
“It’s going to be another money pit.”

Upfront cost. Installation. Training. Disruption. It is understandable but it is also outdated. Modern telematics does not drain your budget. It protects it. And nothing makes that clearer than real, measurable data.

The Challenge

Prologic wanted to understand:

  • Where is fuel being wasted?
  • Which behaviours are silently increasing operating costs?
  • How can they improve fleet performance without adding trucks, staff, or admin load?
  • And most importantly…could telematics actually pay for itself?

Key Findings From the Data

Across the fleet, drivers accumulated 89 hours and 42 minutes of idling time during the week. One driver alone logged prolonged idle sessions of 41, 32 and 31 minutes in separate incidents. Another driver accumulated more than 2 hours of idling in a single day. Idle fuel use for the week reached 127.16 litres.

When this is extrapolated across 50 working weeks, it comes to approximately 6,358 litres per year. At average diesel prices, this adds up to between £8,000 and £9,000 in avoidable fuel spend annually, and that is from idling alone. Fleet Witness telematics made these invisible costs visible instantly.

The ROI: Telematics Pays for Itself

Here is the simple truth fleet managers need to hear: the upfront investment in telematics is tiny compared to the annual savings it unlocks.

In Prologic’s case, a single week of data revealed between £10 and £20 of wasted fuel and efficiency loss per vehicle per week. Over a year, that adds up to more than £780 saved per vehicle just by correcting these behaviours.
Across a fleet of 10 to 20 vehicles, this becomes £7,800 to £15,600 saved every year.

And this was only one area of improvement. If we had also factored in driver behaviour, utilisation, and other efficiency insights, the total savings would be significantly higher.
The telematics system does not cost anything close to that. This is why telematics is not a money pit. It is a profit engine disguised as technology.

How Fleet Witness Makes This Easy

Our platform helped Prologic:

✔ Identify high idle vehicles in real time

✔ Highlight drivers needing coaching

✔ Monitor fuel heavy PTO operations

✔ Track MPG, fuel cost and journey patterns

✔ Spot inaccurate GPS data and correct it (as with vehicle AY25TPO)

✔ Simplify fleet reporting through fully automated dashboards

All this from one week of insight. Imagine the picture and the savings after three months.
