Forklift Cost Reduction
“By February, a quarter of the cameras initial cost had been recovered and by the end of March, they had more than paid for themselves.”
We believe it is widely agreed that onboard cameras and driver analysis tools do have a positive impact on fleet costs.
One of our larger customers has no completed their first 12 months since having the system fitted to their fleet of forklifts. The results demonstrate a clear improvement in driver behaviour.
The aim was to reduce the number of items damaged during handling. Fleet Witness supplied and fitted digital cameras and a connected DVR to the front and rear of the vehicles. The cameras can be monitored in real-time from the warehouse office and the video footage is stored for several weeks.
Being the brains of the system, the DVR is where all the cameras and programmable triggers wire back to. When this is correctly set up and configured, it can automatically communicate with our Fleet Witness Live platform, allowing real-time tracking and camera footage, along with detailed insights into journey details, driver behaviour, and more.
Our DVRs are compatible with 720p & 1080p AHD cameras, allowing for a high-quality picture which provides crucial video evidence.
What was the result?
In the graph below, we can see that the red line represents the number of units damaged in 2016. When we installed our equipment in January 2017, the drivers were well aware of the cameras and almost immediately the number of incidents decreased. The blue line represents the number of damaged units this year. The orange line shows the target.
By February, a quarter of the cameras initial cost had been recovered and by the end of March, they had more than paid for themselves.
Our customer believes that much of this improvement is down to the fact that the drivers are being monitored. When necessary, the footage from the Fleet Witness system is used to educate and retrain operators.
